What Does a Business Continuity Plan Include?

The exact details of a business continuity plan will vary by organization. However, the business continuity management planning process typically begins with business impact analysis (BIA), a specialized type of assessment that accounts for all business functions and then determines how quickly, and with what data, they would need to be recovered in a disaster.

Increasingly, the functions identified during BIA revolve around the uptime of IT infrastructure like servers, networks, and data storage, all of which must be recovered relatively quickly (e.g., via an Azure disaster recovery solution) in order to avoid major damage. As part of business continuity planning, such critical IT-dependent functions are assigned recovery point objectives (RPOs) and recovery time objectives (RTOs):

  •  An RPO describes the acceptable age of the data needed for restoring business operations to normal. The most important applications may have an RPO of 0 to 1 hour, meaning that they need a backup made within the last hour to function properly. Accordingly, RPOs help determines the backup frequency.
  • An RTO denotes the necessary time frame of recovery for a function after a disaster. An RTO of 4 hours means that the function in question must be restored within that time in order to avoid material impact on business operations.

Overall, business continuity management is an ongoing cycle rather than a one-off activity

  • It begins with BIA and other planning.
  • The next steps are solution design and implementation, usually involving DRaaS and backup tools.
  • Testing and acceptance then follow.
  • Ongoing solution maintenance is needed to preserve continuity.
  • Analysis and planning must be revisited as business requirements and the operating environment evolve.

What Does Effective Business Continuity Management Look Like?

On a technical level, business continuity management requires a reliable and economical solution, ideally one based in the cloud for maximum resilience and managed by a dedicated team. Cloud-based business continuity supported by Azure disaster recovery helps avoid common obstacles, such as high costs for on-prem solutions, budget constraints on IT, and difficulties maintaining expertise after turnover.

By moving your business continuity management into Azure, you can tap into rapid recovery backed by scalable infrastructure. Hanu offers DR, backup, and patching services in the Azure cloud, including Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup offerings, along with other solutions such as Windows Virtual Desktop that extend the power of Azure into specific applications like VDI.

High-Speed Recovery in a Streamlined Interface

We will help you meet even the strictest RTOs for your data and IT infrastructure, so that disruptions are limited and business operations get back on track as soon as possible. Convenient single-click Azure disaster recovery, with straightforward web-based management, is available for physical as well as virtual servers.

Real-Time Failover and Convenient Failback

Using secondary site solutions that mirror your applications and workloads, we enable instant failover of your business-critical functions without compromise. Azure Site Recovery can failover between multiple Azure regions, or automatically from an on-premises environment to Azure. Once you have failed over, seamless failback to on-premises is also available.

Continuous Health Monitoring and Solution Testing

Our team continuously keeps tabs on your business continuity solutions in Azure to give you peace of mind that all instances are running properly. Disaster avoidance warnings keep you up to date, while non-disruptive DR drills let you test an Azure Site Recovery implementation without interrupting production workloads.

Confidence and Security Assured

The Hanu team can manage and support your Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup solutions 24/7/365, removing a major burden from your internal IT personnel. We will find the DR, storage, and patching architectures for your particular requirements and guide you toward a business continuity management strategy that is both high-performance and secure, with encryption of all of your backed-up apps and data

Savings and Efficiency in the Cloud
